Nokia E71, i-Mate Ultimate 8502, BlackBerry Bold 9000, Palm Treo Pro reviews

PDA phones are a winning combination for many people. They pack in all of the convenience of a personal digital assistant, or basically a palm-top computer, with the mobility of a cell phone. The competition among manufacturers is fierce, needless to say. So, we wanted to take the opportunity to review some of the top-selling PDA phones. This will enable you to be better informed when it comes time to make the all-important buying decision.

First, consider the Nokia E71. There’s a lot to love about these PDA phones. You get a slim design. You get a full QWERTY keyboard. It’s rich in techno wizardry features including HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. It’s got a clear sound when you’re using the phone, and sharp productivity tools that are user-friendly. And, it’s got great battery life–something too often overlooked in tools such as these.

The downside is that you have to use a cramped keyboard. Also, the screen display is small compared to other models. Nevertheless, in the end the Nokia E71 is a sleek and nicely-priced PDA phone and should be a top consideration for anyone.

Next, take a look at the fittingly-named first PDA phone from Australia, the i-Mate Ultimate 8502. This smartphone’s solid, slim build is convenient and attractive. You get great connectivity including Wi-Fi, HSPA, and GPS. And, something really cool is that you get TV-out Telstra services which include Foxtel. But on the downside, the QWERTY keyboard is teenie weenie. Also, the predecessor i-Mates had better screen resolution.

But, all in all the i-Mate Ultimate 8502 is the best i-Mate ever, and another great deal for the money.

We turn your attention now to the BlackBerry Bold 9000 PDA phone. For one thing, this smartphone is bee-yoo-teeful. For another thing, it’s got a state-of-the-art QWERTY keyboard which is a pleasure to use. You get great battery life. And we particularly like how easy it is to set up your e-mail.  We do have a couple of criticisms, though. Some of the software is clumsy and slow-moving (especially maps). Another thing is, we aren’t wowed by the price of the service.

Nevertheless, the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is the best Blackberry yet.

Let’s look at the Palm Treo Pro. Now this is another very sleek-looking PDA phone with great capability underneath that purty exterior. It gets great reception in rural areas. And you get HSDPA, GPS, and Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, it’s got a fair amount of downside, too. The battery life was not well-considered by its designers. The QWERTY keypad is another teenie weenie thing. And the navigation software ain’t all that. But, for all this, you pay a relatively high price.

Still, if you desire a Windows Media PDA phone and do a lot of travel in the countryside, this is a top pick for you.

And, for those of you who demand the best in QWERTY keyboards, we present the HTC Touch Pro. A definite improvement over the Touch Diamond, this smartphone is a real pleasure to type on. You get HSDPA, GPS, and Wi-Fi, and if you have a Diamond you’ll appreciate how much faster by comparison the Pro is. The TouchFlo 3D is awesome.

Unfortunately, HTC still seems like a tyro in PDA phones. You get no navigation software. It’s still slower than average. And you still do not get any great battery life.

So there you have it with our PDA phone reviews. We hope they’re helpful.
